Javier Wolf Betancourt
Javier Betancourt is the youngest of the OchoPlacas team. He attended South Miami High School and later attended art school before deciding that his passion for tattoos was better practiced than theorized. In 2006, he obtained his first tattoo at OchoPlacas. Taken by Carrera’s style and teaching philosophy, Betancourt joined the Eighth Street shop as an apprentice. After two years shadowing OchoPlacas’ industry talent, he developed a skill set and has since become one of the team’s integral talents, known for his colors, smooth curves and clean line-work.
Betancourt has been into tattoo culture ever since he can remember, seeing his tio and abuelo’s friends inking, and being inked, influenced his early childhood. He describes himself as always talking about tattooing, always thinking about tattoos and always pushing further to improve his tattoos. Committed to this creative state of mind, he discovered his own style by blending American and Western Traditional, as well as European and Victorian genres.
Focus has paid off for Betancourt, who has recently tattooed as a guest artist at national and international parlors including Nine in Brighton, England; Daredevil Tattoo in New York, NY and Inksmith and Rogers in Jacksonville, FL. He has also expanded his repertoire to include painting and alternative artistic mediums. Now 22 years, the young protégé hopes to parlay his vocation to traveling the world, while delving into the visual, musical and sub-cultural lifestyle of an avid tattoo artist.
